Forget the windows… the design stars aligned for me this past Friday, when on my way to take some pics I decided to swing by Susanna Salk’s book signing for Be Your Own Decorator. I carried in my Post It tabbed copy (BEST BOOK EVER), and just happened to catch Susanna alone. We chatted about design, kids and designing for your kids. I can’t believe I hadn’t ordered it yet, but I went straight home and bought Room For Children, a gorgeous pictorial of creative, functional rooms… with room to grow… by some of today’s top designers.

My morning was made… then in walks Annie Kelly and Tim Street-Porter, of Rooms to Inspire fame (as well as incredible designer/writer and award winning architectural and interior design photograper!). They couldn’t have been more gracious and willing to give advice, and even ASKED to read my blog! In a world and profession that can be quite intimidating, they were as fresh and light as that Los Angeles morning, and I want to offer them a very sincere THANK YOU.

Flipping through my Post It pages with Susanna…

A casual chat (Tim Street-Porter, Annie Kelly, Susanna Salk and Me)… wish I hadn’t rushed out looking like such a hot mess that morning!

Now back to those windows… which were actually quite UNFORGETTABLE. I didn’t get to see them all, but I’ve posted pics of my faves from those I did see. Take a little stroll with me…

Thomas Buckley – Cannes at Antonio’s Bella Casa

How fun is the fabric on those chairs?! Ticket for two please…

Lane-McCook – Kenya at Ralfs

Out of Africa moment…

Michelle Nussbaumer – French Congo at Dragonette

This was a crowd fave and one of my top three… the wall covering, the pop of red, the mannequin = a ton of fun!

Tim Clarke – The Bahamas at Lucca

This CA girl and surfer would feel right at home…

Trip Haenisch – Snow Hill Island, Antartica at Jamal Rugs

This simple window might be my #1. The gorgeous rug speaks for itself, and the vintage rocking horse adds just the right amount of whimsy and texture… well done!

Kathryn Ireland – Toulouse at Navona

Signature KA 🙂

Nate Berkus – Mexico City at Hollywood at Home II

It was hard for me to capture the scale of this installation, but I hope you can get an idea. The green wall was enough to  make it into the top three for me (I’m having a green moment), but the duck was the deciding factor. Call me a quack…

Alissa Sutton – India at Dragonette

Gold and peacock and pink… oh my!

The ALWAYS lovely Jason Shaw from Hollywood at Home. Love him… love their fabrics! He told me to swing by and take a pic of their window at night so I could see the color POP…

William-Christopher Design – Dublin at Hollywood at Home (south)

…and pop it did! Simple but studly. Who doesn’t adore a brightly painted door? I’d want one in my home… and thanks to William-Christopher Design, these doors will be donated to Habitat for Humanity.

A sweet send off…
