I mentioned in my Trends post that a proliferance of Polka Dots is in the forecast for fashion and design in 2013. Don’t get me wrong… they’ve been spotted before (obvs) and are considered to be one of the most classic, lady-like patterns of ALL time… but they are definitely on the rebound… especially when it comes to interior design.

The graphically playful pattern is making the jump from “extra” to “scene stealer” as designers (and clients) are willing to experiment more. I especially love the trend I’m seeing on walls… both in retro, ladylike versions and in more edgy artsy effects. They’re also a fairly easy DIY decoration, with stencils and decals abundantly available on crafting sites and in stores, which lends itself to children’s spaces.

If you want to keep the vibe adult and even “male-friendly”…. stick with metallics and classic color combos like black, white, navy and kelly green. Then you know you’re in for the long haul.

See Spot Run!

I’ve always wanted a vintage ceramic life-size dalmation somewhere in my living room. No… seriously. I’ve missed out on a few good ones and I’ve learned my lesson! Grab one when you can! Get this 1960’s version here.

A popular Pinterest pic making the rounds. I adore the mix of pattern and find the polka-dotted adorned entryway perfection!

This Anthropologie wallpaper in muted metallics would be gorgeous in a dining room! Glam… but not over-the-top… and able to play with almost any design style that exists in a dining area.

Polka dots take a turn towards tots-ville when the colors go primary… and how fun for the little-ones! I like how this plain jane dresser and white wall now exist as a piece of art (and teaching tool) with the addition of some DIY decals.

It’s yellow… and it’s polka dotted… which will have me singin in the rain… for sure! Available at Barney’s.

A little bit granny… a little bit rock’n’roll? I LOVE IT!

These polka dotted Terra Firma Trays from Nickey Kehoe would add a graphic, masculine touch to a night stand (and would give us a break from seeing Chevron, no?).

For just a POP of Polka… style with this pretty pillow from West Elm.

Um… why Dee are you posting a pink spiked shoe on your Polka-Dotted post? #1… Because I can ;). #2… Because I view the “spike” as the punk version of the polka dot… and OMG… I AM IN LOVE WITH THIS SHOE! Happy Valentine’s Day to me? Anyone… Anyone…
