This past week I have been in “cahoots” with my friend’s hubby to help with an office redesign while she has been away on a business trip. Full photos of the office will be coming soon (Jeff did an AMAZING job), but in the meantime, here’s a sneak peek at the custom inspiration board I created for her!
Reason #5,401 why Pinterest rocks… if you’re surprising your friend with an inspiration board, the inspiration (theirs) is right at your fingertips!
Sometimes as a designer, you can luck out big time… and I happened to luck out BIG TIME with ONE big sheet of thick black poster board that happened to fit the exact dimensions (30 x40) of the space I needed to fill in the frame. This became the backing/support for the cork board. I bought squares of cork board from Michaels, then had to cut and glue gun them to fit the backing. Kind of painstaking, but the rolled version of cork wasn’t the thickness that I wanted.
Here’s the cork, cut and glued to the black backing.
You can leave the cork bare (it will be covered with pics anyway)… but I find it to be much prettier with some fabric wrapped around it. This project took about a yard and half.
I pulled the fabric around the cork board and poster board backing and glue gunned it in place.
Here’s the fabric wrapped board placed into the frame. If you can find a vintage frame that has a matting still attached, it creates another “frame”, or lip for the board to sit inside.
The final step… nailing the board into the frame!
Voila! Now get to pinning!
The finished project!
In its new home… Stay tuned for a tour of the completed office… coming soon …
