There is some serious love being shown to my state (and in particular, Los Angeles), of late… and I’m LOVING it! We natives (my husband, my two littles, and I’ll count myself as an honorary member since I’ve been here over 20 years), have always seen the beauty, the diversity, the design, the art, the architecture, etc., tucked away away in emerging spaces and places just begging to be discovered…

… and now they are.

So much so, that there seems to be a resurgence of celebrity residents, a flocking of bloggers, a burgeoning and very WELL RESPECTED design and artistic community, and even transplants of the most rare (and usually “shade” throwing type)… NEW YORKERS!

Ms. Goop herself bought one of my FAVORITE houses, shown below. The Novogratz clan are currently renovating some old Hollywood digs they call “the castle”, and do I even need to mention that the Queen Bey herself has brought her nest to the “best” coast?

A new crop of hotels have also emerged… in TRUE California eclectic style…

… a few of them designed by the designated new “cool kids” of interiors.

And while we’re at it… the retail industry is also having a love affair with the Sunshine State. BHLDN’s new look book is shot at a classic Hollywood estate, and Lulu & Georgia celebrated Christmas in California this past holiday.

Somethin’s in the west coast water… and everyone is drinking it!

So CHEERS to LA…

I’ll always love NY…

But here is where I’ll stay!

The Hotel (California) Covell

Oh HELLLO gold door…

and gorgeous black Heath Ceramics (still produced in their original Sausalito, CA factory) .

The hotel… located in Los Feliz… is a designer’s dream. I need to head here for a staycation STAT.

Check out the rest of  Sally Breer’s portfolio… it’s a quintessential CA daydream!

Speaking of a daydream… how about THIS house? I had the pleasure of touring it when it was designed as a show house for Veranda Magazine by Windsor Smith. It’s pretty much flawless. Nestled into a quiet CA canyon… you would never guess it’s only a few short minutes to the ocean. Ms. Gwyneth Paltrow now has tea parties with Beyonce here… GAH.

Greenery galore… check. Midcentury and earthy design… check. The Commissary at The Line Hotel in Koreatown is where to go when you’re feelin a bit artsy fartsy shaken and stirred with a bit of hipster.

The ridiculously good looking Novogratz clan has decided to make a home base in LA… and of course chose a “castle” to do it in (where else could you house 7 kids!!!). I can’t wait to see the renovation unfold, and would LOVE to be invited to THIS housewarming party!

A little throwback to the holidays, just because this Lulu & Georgia Christmas in California Magalog was so timely and well styled.

Another stop on our hotel tour… the Ace Hotel in Downtown LA is where the cool kids like to play.

… and one of T.V.’s super coolest GIRLS, Lena Dunham, just bought this classic California craftsman for 2.7 Million just off Sunset Blvd. In a recent interview, Ms. Dunham said LA leaves her feeling depressed… let’s hope this adorable home (and the weather) cheers her up!

Maybe Lena can use Todd Nickey and Amy Kehoe to freshen up her new digs. This design team is known for their timeless Southern California aesthetic.

Finally… setting the LA interiors style bar high… Amber Lewis of Amber Interiors is the “go to” gal to get that vintage mixed with modern global it-girl game on. This bathroom just happens to be a small (but incredibly pinned!) example!
