It’s a gorgeous afternoon and my little boy is napping while my big boy is working out. It’s Tivo time for mama! First in the queue is HGTV Design Star. What I find most intriguing about this show is the designer pairings… does a similar design aesthetic achieve greatness, or do “opposites attract” couples collaborate more creatively?

This particular episode points to the latter. Miss “coastal interiors” Miera Melba and Mr. “masculine glam” Jordan Cappella scared the bejeezus out of me! I expected a major meltdown (basketweave woven fabric… no no no no!), but they surprised me with a meeting of the minds and a room that made sense. Artists Yuki Northington and Stanley Palmieri, on the other hand, colored WAY outside the lines and their room pains me too much to even post up.

Take a look below at some of my favorite moments from the show, and if you’re watching… who’s the next to go?

This was a HUGE room to handle for Designers Luca Paganico and Danielle Colding, but they were able to cozy it up with color and some big pieces of furniture.

Do I see basketweave? … a vignette of Designers Miera Melba and Jordan Cappella’s “coastal glam-masculine”.

I love the use of natural elements in designers Hilari Younger and Rachel Kate’s space.

Designers Mikel Welch and Britany Simon played with graphic latticework and pops of color to create this fun, yet functional room. Is that a Scalamandre Zebra pillow I see? LOVE!

Tune in Tuesdays at 9pm to watch the drama unfold and for some on-the-fly inspirational moments. It’s also a nice little mini-tour of LA design shops and showrooms. I’ll be designing my own tour… so to speak… soon, so keep on reading!
