I always get two feelings when I stumble upon a new little gem of a home store…

1. I feel like I am cheating on my best friend (my fave, my go to…).

2. I kind of don’t want to share it with any one else… even if for a day or two ;).

But design is ALL about sharing, and each new little gem becomes a part of the family. Brainworks… welcome home!

Located on a strip of Pico Ave. that is slowly revitalizing with new restaurants, cafes, and vintage stores, Brainworks sold me at the sidewalk (that’s how you get me by the way). I could tell it was special… and then I walked inside. Beautiful vintage furniture is there of course, but then I spied a wall of vintage hardware and wallpaper and door knobs… oh my!

Owner Erin Adams has used the space for two years as a design studio, but Brainworks Home is only three months old. Wanting to contribute to the area’s revitalization, Erin calls her store “a gift to the neighborhood… something to help make the area a more exciting and vibrant place to walk around in”. In fact, one of her customer’s sons was painting a white picket fence around  the trees planted outside as I shopped.

You can immediately tell that each and every item in this space is carefully chosen… and picked with love. Erin loves a good story, and that’s what she’s looking for when scouting. Passing on the story is important too. She views herself as a foster parent… in fact… offering up her space before each item moves on to the next home.

Even her collection of doorknobs has a deeper function than adorning a door. When scouting them for her own home a block away, she realized how ridiculously expensive people were selling them for. She decided to start collecting her own to provide the other vintage homes in the area an option with a more reasonable cost.

So there you have it… my secret is out! Please stop by and give the super cool, yet warm and fuzzy Erin a big HI (and a hug)! She’s worth the trip to the new Pico strip!
