From what I can see from everyone’s Instagram Feeds (follow mine if you haven’t already ;))… Memorial Weekend was a rollicking good time for all!
This includes me and my fam… except for a really scary, heart-dropping, scare the BEJEEZUS out of mommy and daddy fall from Parker off of the arm of the couch… 2.5 feet to the back of his head on the hard wood floor. First big head bump for all of us… (and probably more to come, right mamas?) :(. But P was ok (WOW these kids are resilient!)… and we were off to the fair the following day riding ponies, swinging on swings and flying mechanical airplanes.
Besides the beach and the fair… I actually got to catch up on some reading, with some RARE quiet moments to myself. I voraciously attacked Grace Coddington’s memoir (I’m about 3/4 the way through!)… and flipped through my stack of magazines.
If you loved The September Issue (and of course, Grace)… then you need to buy this book… especially, if like me, you once dreamed of a glamorous position as an editor at a fashion magazine, a la Vogue. It’s fun to muse over the heyday of supermodels, to read about the relationships between photographers, makeup artists, fashion directors, and editors, and to reminisce about the kind of “brand” of Americana so aptly portrayed today in advertisements from the likes of Ralph Lauren.
Taking a break from the book… I went straight for this month’s Vogue… and it couldn’t have struck a chord, more accordingly. There in all of her bombshell beauty, is Kate Upton, photographed by Mario Testino, kicking off summer in only a way that a true supermodel can do. It feels like a spread from the 90’s… the kind I use to pore over and fantasize about being a part of. She’s even sporting some big-time brows and channeling Ms. Cindy Crawford in a serious way.
I can’t even FATHOM why she gets such a backlash over her buxom bod… I find her so refreshing (and I, with absolutely no curves to speak of, would DIE to borrow some of what she’s workin with…. ).
