This past weekend (Thursday through Sunday), the hubs and I hit up New Orleans for a friend’s wedding (sans kiddos), and we had such an amazing time!

First stop… Cafe Du Monde for beignets and coffee, of course 😉 …

To kick off the three day wedding celebration, the hosts, Jessica and Riley (center, above), threw a 1920’s themed party with a parade from the hotel to the venue… marching band included!

Fried chicken and waffle cone appetizer… Whaaaaat?

Classic New Orleans… I could have stopped and snapped shutters all day…

…or balconies. How perfectly “jungalow” is this?

No matter what the time crunch… we always manage to visit a museum or search out something unique within the city we visit. The National World War 2 Museum in New Orleans is a MUST SEE. A gorgeous complex that is both a beautiful and haunting reminder of one of the most epic events in history.

More pretty colors… and a snap of the crown braid that lasted through travel and two days of heat and humidity.

Classic tiles everywhere we turned.

We ended Friday night on Frenchmen street. This was arguably our best evening out. Skip Bourbon (frat party central)… and head to Frenchmen for an unbelievably cool art and music scene.

Post Friday hangover, we headed to Cochon, recommended to us by at least four of my friends and my OBGYN, randomly enough. It was superb, and definitely hangover friendly.

New Orleans has some of the most beautiful (and spooky) cemeteries. I was hoping to do a “haunted” tour, but we ran out of time. All of their cemeteries are above ground, since they are below sea level and there is a risk of flooding. The result? Stately, crumbly, and movie-set worthy tombs.

The wedding was held at an old, literally PEELING APART church that now hosts events and community arts programs. It was so beautiful in its state of decay… something so uniquely New Orleans (unless you are in Europe, etc.).

I was sad to say goodbye. Until next time NOLA… you were a royal good time!
