After our lovely adventures in Rio… The Murphys and Montgomerys took a drive (about 2 hours) to Buzios, a beach resort town East of Rio on an ocean peninsula.

We stayed at the Vila Da Santa, an adorable boutique hotel right in the center of Buzios, nestled against the town square and the seaside.

The hotel itself had so many fun design moments… as the owners have brought back art, accessories and furniture from their own travels around the world.

Almost every corner had something unique happening, which added to the personal and cozy atmosphere of the space.

The property feels as if you are somewhere in Greece, France, and Brazil all mixed into one… and it is oh-so-serene!

We could have been perfectly happy just to stay in town, and eat, swim, and pet the resident cat…

… but Buzios is a beach (and surf) getaway… and we hit up Praia de Geriba every day we were there (and took advantage of their dune buggy rentals)!

We came, we saw, we surfed…

… and may or may not have been rescued by these beautiful Brazilian lifeguards 😉 .

Buzios is also where we began our quest for the perfect açaí bowls (can you see those purple mouths?).

I understand why this special place is a favorite getaway for Brazilians who live nearby in larger cities…

… similar to driving up the coast to Santa Barbara from Los Angeles!

I absolutely adored Buzios…

… and apparently, so did Bridgette Bardot, who “hid” out here during the 60’s with her Brazilian boyfriend at the time. There is even a statue of her on her namesake seafront (restaurants and roads are named after her as well).

If you are in Rio… take the time to visit this coastal gem!

Thanks again to John for collaborating on the photos 🙂 .

Up next? A short flight (or two) to Salvador, and Deesign Does Brazil: Part 3!
